T-ball Practice!

Jackson had his first t-ball practice! He's on a team with the Miracle League. It's a great program here in Arlington that provides children with disabilities a safe place to play and a chance to participate. They accept all children who, for one reason or another, can't play on a regular team. They are completely supported by corporate donations, so it's completely free for us!

Another team was practicing on the field, so we started out in the grassy field nearby. Jackson's in the "outfield" waiting to bat. The kids all loved chasing after the balls and bringing them back to the tee. After all the kids got to hit, Noah had his chance, too. He was as excited as the rest of them.

The Miracle League has their own special field out at Randol Mill Park. Instead of grass, it's covered with a smooth, spongy surface, like the kind found on some playgrounds. This allows for wheelchairs and walkers, and also makes it easier for kids who have difficulty walking and running. It's a great place.
Each kid will have a buddy who stays with them the entire game to help them out. Only a few of the buddies were at practice, so we don't know yet who Jackson's buddy will be.
Here he's at bat with a buddy to help.
And he's off for first!
Noah couldn't resist hanging out on base with his brother.

Coming in on the home stretch.

And back in the field again. Jackson's favorite part of the game seemed to be chasing the balls.

We got our uniforms, and Jackson was even willing to wear his cap long enough for me to get a picture.

I have to say that our coach is a saint. I'm sure he'd already put in a long day at work, and then he came out to coach a team of autistic kids who were running around like crazy. And he was so patient and energetic and upbeat! And he kept getting hit in the head with the bat and the balls, and it never fazed him. He along with the buddies are a Godsend for our children!
So we'll have six games over the next couple of months. Our first game is this Saturday @ 10:15. Be prepared because I'm going to take a ton of pictures. I'm so excited! Oh, and so is Jackson!
