The kids' first trip to the ocean.

Or the Gulf of Mexico, to be precise. Brad and I made a quick stop on the Seawall in Galveston to let the kids see the beach for the first time. They hated it! Well, Jackson hated it. Noah was scared and fascinated at the same time. It was windy and there was a lot of traffic whizzing by on the street. And it was really bright out. Jackson hates bright light. We call him our little vampire.

So it wasn't a great first impression. I grew up going to Galveston and Freeport and Matagorda bay. I'd like to take the kids to a really pretty beach somewhere. Any ideas?

Happy Birthday Grandpa and Uncle Johnny!

To celebrate my dad's and brother's birthdays, we took the kids down to see them. My dad lives near Galveston Island, so we headed to Moody Gardens to see the Aquarium Pyramid. It was so much fun!

So, here, for your viewing pleasure I present...a seal's butt! Oh, but aren't the kids cute? And next...some strange woman's butt! Oh, and a sea turtle.
Ooh, sting rays. This underwater viewing tank was really cool.
Jackson got acquainted with some sinister-looking sharks.
Johnny in the shark cage.
And then Brad and Noah. Jackson wouldn't go anywhere near it.
We stopped for a little snack afterwards.
My dad showed the kids the video he took.
Kids really like seeing themselves on tv!
On the way out we stopped to take a quick family photo. You can see the rainforest pyramid in the background. We'll have to see that one next time around.
Of course, it usually takes at least two shots to get everyone looking and smiling and all.
Later that evening, we all went out to the Olive Garden for dinner. That's where Johnny always wants to go for his birthday. He likes having all the waitstaff singing for him.
And finally, the cake! The best deal on the menu, really. For less than $6, we all got dessert, and there was some left to take home. It was really good, too. Brad says he's going to order a birthday cake everytime we eat there!
We had so much fun!

Trying to get a couple of good photos of the kids to send to Grandpa for his birthday...whew!

You wouldn't think it would be that difficult to take one good picture of two little kids, would you? Well, if you think that's true, you haven't met my kids.

This shot we sent my dad in a birthday email. It's the perfect spot to take a picture since they've got nowhere to run. Then I needed an individual shot of each of them for this snowglobe thing the kids made for Grandpa.
"What? Smile and look at the camera? Crazy talk, woman."
"How's about I roar like a dinosaur? ROAR!"
"Or maybe I'll be a shy dinosaur. roar."
"I will smile and yell, 'cheese!' You betcha! But I'm going to do it...in your face!"

"Stop taking pictures of me and break out the cookies already!!!"

"Wait, did I hear talk of cookies? What cookies? I'll be good for cookies. The Girl Scout ones, not the crappy Oreos."
Finally, a shot good enough for Grandpa.
And an okay shot...taken by stealth after I pretended to put the camera away.
"And this is what I think of the whole, stinkin' business."
