Halloween Time

This year for Halloween, the kids dressed up as Thing One and Thing Two from The Cat in the Hat! I made the costumes myself.

Jackson started out the day with a costume parade through his school. I was there to see it, and he did really well!

That afternoon, we all headed to a party at The Little Gym!

Here's Thing One. And Thing Two.

That's Thing Two, btw.

Right about this time, Thing Two realized that his hair was stiff and spikey from the blue hair gel I used in it. And he was not happy about it. It fact, he was pretty pissed off! He kept yelling at me to wash his hair and wipe it off. I'm afraid it took him a while to get over it.

Thing One had a blast, however!
Here are some of our little friends.

After the party we went over to the house of Lil' Orphan Annie and Abby Cadabby to hang out, play, and eat pizza. By the time we got home that evening, the kids were pretty tired.

At this point, Thing One did NOT want to go trick-or-treating. We managed to get him around to a few houses before he had a meltdown.

Here he is running into the same house he always runs into. It's a Halloween tradition. I did manage to keep him from running up the stairs this time.
Thing Two was quite an expert at trick-or-treating this year. After Thing One bailed on us, he and I made it all the way to the end of the street and to a few houses beyond as well. He had so much fun!
And he always said thank you afterwards. Such a good boy. Most people would ask him if he wanted a second piece of candy, and he always answered with a resounding, "Yes!" A couple of people only handed him one piece, and he would then stand and peer into the candy bowl to see where the other piece was. I had to prod him away at that point. Then we came home where he was given way too much candy to eat by his father.

Don't worry about Thing One not getting enough candy, though. Almost everyone asked us where Thing One was and then threw in some extra candy for him. Of course Thing One doesn't eat candy, so more for the rest of us. Woohoo!

The story of Noah and his crib

When Jackson was 23 months old, a couple of months before Noah was born, he decided he didn't want to sleep in his crib anymore. Brad went out and bought him a little toddler bed, but he hated that as well. He wanted to sleep in the full-sized bed that was also in his room at the time, so I figured, why not? He doesn't need to transition to a real bed. The toddler bed went back.

I assumed that Noah would, also, one day declare his need to sleep in a big-boy bed. I was wrong. He loved his crib with a passion. He has had a twin bed in his room for months, but every night he went straight to his crib, refusing to even look in any other direction.

I was patient. I decided to give him till his third birthday, then the crib would go. He turned three last Thursday. Saturday morning, Brad took the crib apart while Noah and I were at swim lessons. I prepared myself for his anger when he got home, but no. He didn't even go near his room. Later that afternoon we went and bought a toddler bed. I was sure he would need to transition.

We came home, and Noah helped Brad put it together. He went crazy over Brad's ratchet screwdriver and his own plastic hammer. I still braced myself for the fit that surely would occur when bedtime came.

After storytime, he got right into his new bed, said goodnight, and went to sleep! It was that easy!

This is what he looks like:(I did straighten him out after I took the picture).

He loves the bed! Brad figured he would start coming to our bed during the night like Jackson, but no. He waits in bed every morning for me to come get him. He's such a good boy.

Now if only he'd get on with this whole potty-training business, we'd have a bonafide big boy on our hands!
