Happy Birthday to Me

Another year closer to death. Ha, just kidding. This is my present from the hubby.

The kids have been pretty good at eating out lately, so I decided to try a nice Italian restaurant without crayons or kid menus. Well, I guess we've been eating out too much because the kids decided they'd had enough of the being good at restaurants. They both resolutely refused to sit in their seats quietly and eat. Jackson walked around the table with his plastic giraffe, occasionally stopping by to shove some pasta in his mouth. Noah walked around to all the other tables and tried to steal the waiter's pepper grinder and bowl of grated parmesan. I ate quickly and took them to wander around the Whole Foods while Brad finished up. On the plus side, I did buy some fancy Dutch-processed cocoa for the chocolate cheesecake he's going to make for me. I also got some dark chocolate gelato. Yummy!

Then I went to see a movie with some girlfriends. So it wasn't a total wash.

"Don't you listen to a word she says. She's getting old and senile. I was absolutely perfect tonight, as always!"
"I too don't know what my mother is talking about. I always sit and eat my dinner like a gentleman."
"Enough about her anyway. I will now entertain you all with tricks involving my cute booty."
"And my sweet belly."
"You know that's all you care about."
Alex - official baby cleaner
Cowboy - assigned to various other spilt-food cleanup
"I'm just here to be handsome."
"And get my way."
"It's hard work being so awesome all the time."
"You may put me down for a nap, now, Mother dear."

Birthdays

To all those of you with summer birthdays, happy birthday! To that certain family of five, all with summer birthdays, I have a package sitting on my desk waiting to be shipped to you. I promise I'll make it to the post office before the summer is over.

It's my birthday today, officially and all. Brad's was last Wednesday. We don't usually do much. Getting old and all. Brad asked me for a Tres Leche cake. We've been eating a piece every night. We've got one more piece to go. We ran out of the whipped cream last night, though, and I didn't have any heavy cream to make anymore. But it was still good. Brad likes for me to make his birthday dinner, so I made Chicken Alfredo pizza with homemade alfredo sauce and plenty of garlic.

I like to go out for dinner to celebrate, so I'm still trying to think where we should go. I would love to go to a fancy french restaurant - my favorite, but I'll have the kids with me, so I don't think that'll be a good combo. I've also always wanted to try Spanish tapas, but again, not kid-friendly. Oh well. As long as it's not Mc Donalds, it'll be good, I suppose.

The real question is what kind of cake should I have Brad make me? I told him to wait till next weekend since we've been eating his cake for days. But what???

We watched an episode of Everyday Italian a while back, and Brad drooled over the limoncello cheesecake so much, he actually went out and bought me a new food processor so I could make it for him. It was very yummy.

So then I watched this episode of Nigella Feasts today. It was a chocolate episode. Must have chocolate. So, the most important question...do I go with the chocolate cheesecake or the brownies?

And if I bored you to tears with this post about food...well, it's my birthday. I can do what I want!
