Biker Dudes
Hot Springs, Arkansas
So we decided to take a little road trip. We wanted to be outdoors. Brad wanted to go back to New Mexico, but I didn't want to drive 15 hours with two little kids. We decided on Hot Springs instead. It's only 4 1/2 hours away and is really quite a nice little place.
We rented a cabin on Lake Catherine a few miles out of town. We were right on the water and were able to bring both our dogs.
Here we are relaxing. Who needs a highchair when you can just crawl on your daddy?
Mmm, food.
Jackson can make himself at home anywhere.
As long as he's got his mommy and his toys.
Lake dog #1 - Cowboy
Lake dog #2 - Alex, a.k.a. Lexie Lou
The cabin came with a paddle boat which we took out everyday. Here's Brad testing it out. Apparently Alex also got to ride, but I missed that fun.
Those ducks pictured above along with a couple of others hung around our part of the lake the whole week. The kids loved quacking at them.
Woman, don't you go outside to take pictures of Daddy without me! Just cause I'm not wearing pants, don't think I won't take you down.
Paddling around with the whole family was so much fun. We really should get our own paddleboat. Oh, and some lake property.
Apparently my arm isn't long enough for one of those arms-length self photos. But as Brad pointed out, I captured the kids. They're all anyone wants to see anyway.
Jackson liked sitting by himself in the back and hanging over the side to trail his hands in the water. I spent most of my time hanging onto the back of his shirt. Poor Noah really wanted to get back there as well, but yeah, didn't happen. Maybe next time.
Here's a shot of our cabin from the water.
Noah preferred to hang out at the cabin next door.
Jackson liked the boat dock next door as well. Fortunately no one was there at the time.
We had a great vacation and are already thinking of going back this summer!

We had a great vacation and are already thinking of going back this summer! That's a big mountain!
Here we are at the summit of West Mountain which is, you guessed it, west of town.
From here you can see Hot Springs Mountain with the mountain tower on top. Jackson and Brad climbed that mountain. Yeah, that's no Grand Teton, but when you're 3, that's a big mountain! Noah and I drove up to get them because Jackson refused to climb down again.

At the top we took an elevator up the mountain tower to the observation deck.
From there we could see all the hills north of town.
You could also see the village of Hot Springs.
Brad wanted a picture of his car. Yeah, I don't know why.
I don't think Jackson was too happy up there. It was really windy.
Remind me never to wear this shirt with these pants ever again, because damn, I look like crap! Oh, but the baby is adorable.
We also took a drive through the countryside west of town where Jackson and Brad hiked through some woods while Noah and I napped in the car.
That's a big forest!

Alligator Farm
Here we are at the Arkansas Alligator Farm and Petting Zoo. Or something like that. We were given slices of bread and told to "get rid of the bread" before visiting the gators.
The deer were very sweet and gentle. I never knew they even liked bread.
I think Brad wanted to take this fella home with him.
There were also some sheep and goats. Lots of goats.
Those goats loved bread. They were also very pushy. I found myself telling the goats to share and be nice. Yeah, goats need some mothering too.
I didn't care for them nibbling on my clothes.
The little ones were more gentle. They probably also figured they could take Noah down if need be.

Oh yeah. There were also some gators. This one was the wise guy.
Since it was still a bit chill outside, they were all indoors. Here are some of the little ones.
Did you know that it's the crocs that attack people, not the gators? Did you?
I don't know why they pile up on top of each other like this. It's kinda creepy, no?

There were also other animals around - monkeys, cougars, wolves - in little cages. I found them to be rather sad. At least most zoos have large enclosures these days. The monkeys looked the most pitiful. Aren't monkeys supposed to be playful?

Here's the fabulous birthday girl herself, looking just like a cupcake in her ruffles.
Noah has that same walker at home, but ours is, uh, a little more beat up...
It's always fun to share other people's toys.

Hmm, big brother seems to make a really good seat.
Mmm, time for goodies already.
It wouldn't be a party unless the Noah got to eat.
Sadie and Noah haven't had a take-down over food - yet. Oh, but they will.
And they'll have some competition soon enough.
Getting ready for cupcakes. Yummy!
