Brad noted that there's very little "log" in my "blog," so I thought I'd tell you about our visit to the museum today. We went for Sunday brunch in the cafe. I had the gingerbread pancakes (the whole reason for the visit!) - and Brad had the biscuits and gravy. Sure they were MODERN jalepeno cheddar biscuits and all, but still...I guess the old adage is true.
Anyway, then we toured the museum. I usually prefer classical artists (Matisse and Cezanne being my favorites), but I found quite a few of the exhibits interesting. We saw a few Andy Warhols and Jackson Pollacks (the only modern artists I know).
But you know...some of it doesn't really make sense to me. The solid-colored canvas. The torn canvas labeled "Untitled."
There was one collection of photographs of theater screens - famous ones from around the country - which was cool. Apparently the photographer set up his camera, opened the shutter, and left it open for the entirety of the movie. The result was that the screen ended up glowing white. Printed in black and white, it all looked really nice. What didn't do it for me was his description or rather explanation of his inspiration for the pieces.
Basically he was watching a movie at a theater when he started having hallucinations. He then started touring the country to take the pictures of the theater. When he saw the results, his "vision exploded." I think maybe he smoked some bad crack before watching that first movie. Still, it was pretty.
Jackson enjoyed running around the museum, climbing on all the benches set up in the middle of the galleries, and looking out all the windows (the entire place is glass/steel/concrete). There were a lot of windows, and I noticed on the second floor that a museum employee was discreetly following us with a bottle of Windex. He also liked naming all the colors and shapes that he saw in the paintings. Oh, and there were stairs to climb. He likes climbing stairs.
Outside was a huge reflecting pond - only a few inches deep and filled with round pebbles. The museum sort of wrapped around it, so you could see it from all the windows on the one side. Jackson really liked it and said "Wow, it's a BIG river!"
Noah really enjoyed eating brunch, and then spent the rest of the time trying not to fall asleep in his stroller.
All-in-all we had a nice Sunday outing with the family. Tomorrow we're going to a birthday party to load up on cake.
