Ballgames and birthday parties

Jackson had his first t-ball game this morning. Things got off to a bit of a rough start. He put on his baseball pants okay, but he did not want to wear the black t-shirt that was part of his uniform. Then he wanted to wear his Crocs (which I hid) instead of his sneakers. We managed to keep his sneakers on, but I stuffed his shirt in the bag and off we went. When we got to the field, I tried again to get him to wear the shirt. He cried and ripped his shirt off repeatedly. The coach came over and told us not to worry about the shirt, so he was happy with his own shirt.

But, he still didn't want to go out onto the field. Brad took him out, and he kept crying by the fence. All the kids got buddies to help them out during the game, and I finally had Brad just hand him over to the buddy and leave. That did the trick. He stopped crying.

It was such a nice day, and since it was the season opener, the league grilled up burgers and hotdogs with all the trimming for us. It was great!

In the first inning, his buddy (in the white shirt) pretty much carried him out to the tee. After helping him hit, she pretty much carried him from base to base.
By the time he made it back home he was walking, but he still didn't want to look up.
Then, though, while in the field (he was on 1st base), he started to have fun. I could see him go from burying his face in his buddy's leg to dancing around.
By the second inning, he was walking to the tee on his own, hitting the ball with help...
and running hand-in-hand to all the bases. He was getting into it! We were so relieved.

After the game, the kids were asked a trivia question. Jackson got the answer right (I suspect he had a little help from his buddy) and won the prize, a lamb webkin! It was quite a morning. Next week's game is at 9:00. Can't wait!

After lunch and a little rest at home, we headed off to the Y for a birthday party for our friend.

Jackson refused to get in the pool, but he was willing to eat pizza and cake afterwards.

Matthew had come over to play after school the other day, so Noah was really excited to see him again.
It's been a big day, and we're exhausted. But boy did we have fun!
